Rapist not welcome here, insists Murphy's brother

Anger: Family have received threats their home will be torched

By Cormac Byrne and Alan O'Keeffe

Tuesday July 13 2010

THE brother of suspected serial killer Larry Murphy has denied reports he will harbour the rapist, admitting he never wants to see him again.

Thomas Murphy has been subjected to threats from locals after there were several reports that brother Larry would stay with him on his release.

Thomas has said that he wants nothing to do with his brother amid reports that the evil sex fiend will move back to Baltinglass on his release.

"He is my brother but I wish he wasn't. There is nothing I can do about that," he said.

"Friends told me that there are rumours he is moving back in with me. When I heard this I was in disbelief.

"I have told them under no circumstances is he moving back in here.

"I'll refuse him if he arrives on my doorstep. He won't get inside the gate."

Thomas believes that the rumours which have abounded in the locality have put him and his young family at risk.

"We have had threats to be burned out of here," he said.

"I was told of these threats from a good friend of mine.

"You're afraid of your life at night. You are terrified you are going to be torched out of your home."

During his decade-long stint in jail Murphy has never sought any type of counselling and his brother admitted that there is no way of ensuring that he won't reoffend.

"We know he did it once and he got no help for it. I wouldn't say that it is not possible that he will reoffend," he said.

"I live in hope that the stories about Larry being linked to the missing women are not true but there is always that fear."

Thomas admitted that he had visited his brother during his stay at Arbour Hill prison but he stopped once he had learned the truth.

"I have gone to see him. I won't deny that," he said.

"But when I did find out the truth about what happened, it stopped.

"He didn't deny it [the rape of a Carlow businesswoman in 2000], but he would not talk about it to me.

"I asked him a few times and all he ever said was 'I flipped'."

Deep concerns about the release of rapist Murphy were being expressed in Co Wicklow amid fears he may decide to live in the local community.

Local people said they were worried he may seek to stay with his brother, who lives in a rural area within a couple of miles of the forest where he was discovered raping and attempting to strangle a young woman 10 years ago.

The Herald has already revealed that the notorious rapist had attempted to make contact with a family member who lives near Baltinglass, Co Wicklow. Local people have since indicated they were worried that he may seek to stay with his brother, Thomas, who lives in the hilly townland of Kyle.

Rapist Murphy knew land near crime well -- he attacked his wife's friend there
PAST: Brutal convict hunted in area

By Cormac Byrne and Cormac Murphy

Monday July 05 2010

LARRY Murphy knew the countryside where he brutally raped a Carlow businesswoman over several hours very well.

He was born and bred just on the outskirts of Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, and his keen interest in hunting took him over the lands where he committed the horrific crime.

His only remarks on the brutal, prolonged rape show his monstrous character saying coldly: "She was lucky."

Gardai investigating the disappearance of six women in the Leinster area, as part of Operation Trace, were extremely interested in Murphy and he continues to be the prime suspect in the disappearances of Jo Jo Dullard, Deirdre Jacob and Annie Carrick.

Murphy grew up in the village of Stratford, near Baltinglass. His main pastime was hunting, which gave him a knowledge of the terrain around Baltinglass and beyond.

sadistic

The sites where he raped the young business woman were familiar to him. His home turf was the Wicklow Mountains.

But Murphy's sadistic and frightening behaviour had begun much earlier. The first signs were revealed when he attacked his wife's best friend.

He was driving the woman home when she became concerned after he took her down a remote lane past her house and brought his Toyota Corolla to a stop.

"Suddenly, he grabbed me with both hands around the throat and pushed me down towards the front seat of the car.

She managed to escape but he caught up with her, grabbed her and said: "Please, please don't tell Mags."

In another disturbing episode, Murphy was in the Glen Lounge pub in Donard when he made a grab at a woman.

Her brother's best friend was Trevor Moody and some time later, when the woman was in Mr Moody's company, she pointed Murphy out to him -- he would remember the face.

The true depths of Murphy's evil was revealed on the night of February 11, 2000, when he attacked a 28-year-old Carlow businesswoman.

The woman was returning to her car when she noticed Murphy. Before she knew it, he had punched her, knocking her to the ground and breaking her nose. He then shoved her into her car and took her keys.

One experienced investigator, Detective Garda Mark Carroll, now retired, said that Murphy had moved at frightening speed to avoid detection.

"He moved like a rocket, took complete control and threw her into the car," he said. "You'd have to think it was planned and rehearsed, you'd have to ask, had he done it before?"

He moved her car 25ft to where he had left his Fiat hatchback car, transferred her to his car and, instead of using rope, that could be traced to him, he made her take off her bra, and bound her hands tight using it.

He flung her violently into the boot and began to drive. He drove the car to the isolated area of Kilkea in south Kildare. It was an area he knew well -- he had driven his wife's friend there four years earlier.

numb

He pulled her into the car and began to rape her violently. Murphy demanded that she kiss him during the ordeal.

"I felt so numb I couldn't move. I just hoped it would all end. I feared for my life all the time -- I thought this is it," she recalled.

After he had raped her he tied her hands around her back with her headband and gagged her with the bra, threw her in the boot and set off for another location.

He drove into Wicklow, to an area known as Spinan's Cross in the Glen of Imaal, he took his terrified captive from the boot.

"Make love to me," the attacker said before launching into a series of sexual attacks, raping her three times and forcing her to have anal and oral sex.

He placed her back in the boot where, after she managed to free her hands and make a failed attempt to escape, he got a plastic bag from the front of the car.

Murphy tried repeatedly to suffocate her and was using so much force the red print from the plastic bag was engrained on her skin and clothes.

Kenneth Jones and Trevor Moody were out fox hunting when they noticed the car. They managed to get a look at a man before he sped off.

Mr Moody had seen him before -- it was the same Larry Murphy that had grabbed his best friend's sister.

When the gardai came to Murphy's front door the next day, he knew why they were there and admitted everything.

32 GARDAI TO WATCH EVIL RAPIST MURPHY AFTER HE'S RELEASED; Vile monster's every move to be monitored.

Byline: MIRROR REPORTER

A TWISTED rapist and Ireland's only suspected serial killer will be watched by gardai around the clock when he is released from prison later this year, it emerged yesterday.

Vile Larry Murphy Lawrence Thomas Murphy (born March 8, 1961 in Scarborough, Ontario) is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played defence. Playing career
Larry Murphy was drafted 4th overall in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. , 44, is coming to the end of a 15-year sentence for the rape, kidnap and attempted murder In the criminal law, attempted murder is committed when the defendant does an act that is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the crime of murder and, at the time of these acts, the person has a specific intention to kill. of a woman in February 2000.

He has been quizzed several times about the disappearance of three women who were raped, killed and dumped in the Wicklow Mountains.

The suspected victims are Jo Jo Dullard, Annie McCarrick and Deirdre Jacob.

Murphy has refused to co-operate with the Garda investigation and remains the chief suspect.

During a series of interviews he refused to talk to detectives and has never admitted any involvement.

But gardai have long suspected Murphy of holding the key to the mystery disappearances.

In 2007 cold-case detectives invited FBI agents from America to look into the cases.

They concluded that the modus operandi [Latin, Method of working.] A term used by law enforcement authorities to describe the particular manner in which a crime is committed.

The term modus operandi is most commonly used in criminal cases. It is sometimes referred to by its initials, M.O. matched Murphy's actions in the 2000 rape. They also found that he fitted the profile of the probable killer.

In February 2000 Murphy, from Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, attacked his victim in a car park in Carlow.

ATTACK

He punched her and bundled her into the boot of his car where he stripped her.

Murphy started driving towards the Wicklow Mountains but stopped after nine miles to rape her.

The monster then continued with her in the boot towards the mountains where he raped her again.

Murphy panicked and drove off but was caught later.

He was a married man with two children and had never come to the attention of the Garda before his arrest.

With his release due this summer gardai are taking no chances. He is considered at high risk of reoffending and is a serious danger to women.

When Murphy gets out up to 32 undercover officers will work in surveillance teams following him wherever he goes.

It is believed the vile rapist will move to Carlow on his release but wherever he decides to go, a team of gardai will be deployed to monitor his every move.

Despite drains on Garda resources, it has become policy to monitor the most high-risk offenders on their release.

The strategy netted a result earlier this year when a dangerous sex offender sex offender n. generic term for all persons convicted of crimes involving sex, including rape, molestation, sexual harassment and pornography production or distribution. was prevented from raping a woman just 14 hours after his release.

Senior gardai are determined that despite a lack of resources, the most dangerous criminals should not be allowed to go free from prison unmonitored.

SICK BEAST Rapist Larry Murphy is to be freed from jail soon
http://www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/more-jail-time-for-abusers.html

In Ireland we as parents are legally not able to view our sex offenders register. We as parents have the right to protect our children.

In the last year at least under 10 pedophiles and rapists have been released into communitys all over Ireland and the residents are not informed. Why is it these animals are getting protected yet their victims are forgotten. Recently 1 rapist/ paedophile in particular was granted an injunction by the high courts to able him to hide his identity from residents.

I ASK WHY IS HE ABLE TO DO THIS AFTER WHAT HE'S DONE? we need to send the message IF YOU DO THESE CRIMES YOU LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY AND FREEDOM.
